![]() Nowadays, only a handful of heroes and villains still know Spider-Man is Peter Parker. Then Peter collaborates with Iron Man, Mister Fantastic and Doctor Strange, designing a machine fueled by both science and magic that makes nearly everyone in the world forget Spider-Man's true identity. In a followup story called Spider-Man: One More Day, Peter and Mary Jane sacrifice their marriage to the demon lord Mephisto in exchange for May's life. Marvel didn't let this dark new storyline continue for long before finding a solution (albeit a highly controversial one) to restore a more classic Spider-Man status quo. And without Iron Man's resources to protect the Parker family, Aunt May winds up being shot by an assassin hired by the Kingpin. ![]() Peter shortly defects to Cap's team after becoming disillusioned with Team Iron Man. Unfortunately, that decision quickly backfires. He willingly sides with Iron Man's pro-registration faction, even agreeing to unmask on international TV in order to show his support for the new law and prove that heroes should have nothing to hide. ![]() In the comic book version of Civil War, Peter is an adult with a long career as Spider-Man already in the bag. ![]() the ComicsIn the comics, the closest parallel to this story came in 2006's Civil War (which heavily inspired 2016's Captain America: Civil War movie). ![]()
